Hi there,
I'm just curious about whether you utilise Matrix's search engine or use a 3rd party application like google or funnelback? Either way, what are the reasons for your choices?
I'm currently looking into options (with limited funds) and trying to make the Matrix search engine work with some difficulty.
Your feedback would be great!
Hi,
We have used the google minis for a few years now, we have one on our external sites and another running on our internal sites and they have been good we haven't had any problems.
We are interested in seeing how funnelback and matrix will be integrated in the future.

Thanks Mitch, do you have any member's areas on your external site that you need to search on or is it all public?
I am sure Daniel will get in with another <shameless_plug> for Funnelback, which is a good option from my perspective after doing many Panoptic integrations in the early days of Matrix. The reasons were simply that Matrix search did not do what clients wanted and Panoptic, now Funnelback, did. I believe that this is still the case. Having helped a few GPL clients before search was moved into the GPL list I have had success integrating zoom search from wrensoft in both the free, limited to 50 pages, and the paid versions. US$300.00 in it’s most expensive form. www.wrensoft.com/zoom/
If you, or anyone, checks out zoomsearch and feels that they want to give it a go I will post all the code, tips and workarounds for implementing it.

Thanks Shane - I’ll take a look. Whilst I’m happy with the designs that come out of using the search, the weighting just doesn’t seem to work great! I’m imagining that most people who use Matrix, end up using a third party application for search.
I have been involved in a few hundred implementations and have only had to set it up a dozen times:)

Just a quick question, can it be used in member's areas as well (recognise permissions)?
I have not had to set it up for logged in sections. It works on a philosophy of crawling and indexing the site then searching against the index. There isn't much in the way of being able to set up an index for a secure area that can only be searched by the users with access. I suspect that it would be an issue if you wanted to 1 index that would filter results by user rights. I am not sure if Funnelback or other crawl/index based searchengines would offer this granularity easily either, Dan?..

It can do it. When the integration with Matrix is complete, this will be be the default setup when using it with Matrix so it replicates the existing permission-based functionality of the built-in search.
Hey, that is good news. Is there any more information you can share? For example,
- Expected completion of integration and release
[*]Availability of this ability if integrating Funnelback with GPL version of Matrix
[*]etc. I am sure there are more questions out there
No, nothing more I can share.
How did I know you were going to say that.

Hi Shane
I would not mine if it would solve searching for names like "James Baker" and not returning all PDFs with a James or a Baker. Was going to look at Apache Lucene when (if) I got the chance.
Nic, I am not expert in zoom and all of it's uses but I believe that it would achieve this. It also has ability to schedule automatic indexing and placing of the files if you have access to your server and the nous to be able to set it up.
We use the Matrix search and don't have any problems with it. Weightings seem to be working fine for us.

Thanks Rachel! I was doing a bit of a search and most seem to use Funnelback. I'm happy that the search seems to work for others!
I've managed to get it to work a little better now - somehow when we upgraded some of my changes seemed to disappear, which threw me! I think we'll test out Matrix search for a little while before deciding if we need to use something else.
Are you able to advise what your site is? I'd love to have a look at it!
One of our users pointed us this way, so we thought we'd drop a note.
It's good to see a local community (we're Sydney based).

Zoom does this. It's called "exact phrase matching". You just need to surround the words in quote marks, and it'll only return matches containing that exact phrase.
You can find more about Zoom's searching options here.
We'll be happy to hear from more Mysource Matrix users regarding what might help integrate with this CMS.

Hi would be interested in code, tips etc. Am looking at implementing with mysource. Also interested in viewing mysource sites which are using zoom. Thanks
