Hi All,
I've been trying to find info for a few problems I'm having. I suspect the answers are in this forum somewhere - but I'm struggling with the search options this forum provides. Is anyone else bothered by these things? Here are my two main gripes
The word limit - at 4 characters is too long - if I try to search for using php variables the search fails because one of the terms is too short.
Adding quotes to the phrase seems to have no effect - "using php variables" causes the same error message.
I know indexing/allowing shorter search terms adds extra load in the server - but c'mon! Allowing 3 character searches would be much better.
(By the way - I'm happy to eat humble pie if it turns out its my problem - but I have looked through the search help available, and I'm pretty sure I'm following the instructions)

have a look in System Management > Search Manager if you want to
a) decrease the minimum word length, or
B) add words to your white list
A classic example where white list words can help: A criteria on a recent go Live was a company CEO performing a vanity search had to be able to find a page about himself to deem the search functioning, and the site worthy of launch. Seeing as his first name was only three characters, no results!!
Adding his name to the white list and the site was able to be launched
Sorry - maybe I wasn’t very clear - I’m talking about these forums here http://forums.matrix.squiz.ne. You know, the one you are reading right now
The default value that comes with IP.Board is 4, which is the only reason our one is 4. It still indexes short content. I've changed it to 3 chars now.
Hi Greg - thanks for that! Now I've actually achieved something - and it only took an hour!
If only the other things in life that irritate me could be fixed so quickly! Do you offer support packs for life in general?
Greg -- changing just IP.Board doesn't help. You will need to adjust the MySQL FULLTEXT index to index 3 letter words as well. At the moment, while IP.Board will accept a search for "php", it doesn't actually find anything.
I think you need to restart MySQL for this change as well, which will need to be scheduled as the last time I checked, the forum was on a database server that had client databases as well.

I’m not really interested in restarting MySQL on a hosted server. I just wanted the warning message to go away so some results are found. That is the most annoying thing.
But thanks for letting me know. Maybe during the next upgrade
