In short, no. MySource Matrix obeys the Dublin Core metadata specification’s “Structured Values” (DCSV) recommendation, which uses a semicolon to separate values, value components, etc. This cannot be changed by the user.
I knew that would be the answer, so I guess the hidden reason that I wrote the question was for the Matrix developers to think more about how metadata could possibly be used by the matrix mass.
We pin a lot of hope on the movement of metadata in Matrix from "Data about web resources that can be harvested by a Dublin Core/AGLS harvester" to "Data about web resources that can be used in a number of ways such as reduce data redundency, give website managers more control over layout and design, provide methods of grouping data/searching data/displaying data, reduce user input error (for de-centralised publishing organisations such as ourselves) AND harvesting by a Dublin Core/AGLS harvester.
Hopefully you guys are seeing a future for metadata similar to ours.
I am apparently trying to do the same thing Steve is going for here. I know you can use javascript to character replace the semicolon with something else (aka a line break). Now my question is, has anyone done it and willing to share their code?
Ironically it looks like Matrix does it on the backend by using bullets instead of a semi colon to display a multiline text field in the metadata screen.
