Hi,
I've just used the site map asset for the first time. I noticed that it produces a table that provides no way to control its appearance (e.g. I want to make the top level items bold).
To get around this, I've created a design with a menu where the bodycody would normally go, and used nested unordered lists (submenu assets) with classes. I'm getting much better results, layout wise.
However, I'm wondering if there are any performance benefits to using the sitemap asset, and if there are any layout controls that I've overlooked for the sitemap asset?
The site map is probably faster and is cached (if you have that turned on), but you cant control the output.
If your design area menu setup is working and doesnt appear too slow, I'd stick with that.
Sorry to dig up and old thread, but are there any plans to change the layout of the sitemap so that it uses css rather than tables? Or maybe to produce the sitemap as a list so that we can add our own css to style it and define indentation etc?
This was added to 3.8. From the changelog:
The Site Map page now has an option where you can define the structure of the output. By default, table based output is shown. This can be changed to use a list based style, which uses UL and LI tags to create the site map rather than the default TABLE and TD tags. A list based site map allows you more flexibility by allowing you to use CSS to style the site map and make it look however you want.
Hi,
as I ran into this issue earlier I solved it by running menu areas all through the entire tree.
Would the Site Map perform faster than my diiirty solution?
The site map should perform better for you than the menu design area.
Ah good! I'll look forward to getting upgraded in a few weeks then!
Would it be possible to use the Site Map asset and an unordered list to create an A-Z listing for the entire site? We want to be able to list all our pages, but no in a site map format. When there are hundreds of pages, it would be nice to use an A-Z list.

Asset Listing has an A-Z mode.
