Site urls change advice - looking at Nic

#1

Hi guys,

We have a massive site that requires a url change. There is allot of assets associated with the site and I was just trying to engage with clients from the community on their experiences.

There is multiple urls asscociated with the site asset, allot of old remaps and was just getting the best advice forward.

Would it be easier to apply the new url - which is shorter and cascade

then remove the older urls ( this then would then remove the remaps associated with the asset)

or do we simply just cange the urls on the urls screen and pray it all works out.

I was thinking if two urls are applied to the same asset in the same domain than  the authoring urls should go to the shortest url ( in this case it would be the new url).

Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers

Fuzz

I would add the new URL while the first one is still there. Doing it this way you can do all of your testing using the new URL, make sure things are working correctly and linking correctly, and then when the time comes, just remove that old URL.

To me, that is the safest solution.
