In the config screen for System Parent Domains it states "alpha.syd.example.com and bravo.syd.example.com cannot share a cookie because their common parent domain is two levels up"
wouldn't their parent domain be the 'syd' part and so is only one level up?
problem we have is our domain is cit.act.edu.au so we can only create subdomains on the left of the cit part. but reading the above statement, we would have to have multiple edu.au domains to be able to use this feature.
shouldn't the example read "alpha.syd.example.com and bravo.melb.example.com cannot share a cookie"?
I think it should read "alpha.syd.example.com and bravo.syd.example.com cannot share a cookie because their common parent domain is one level up", which I believe was the original intention of the feature.
Can someone fix this please.
so to have any chance of this working you must only have one element to the left of the parent domain? alpha.example.com and bravo.example.com will work but alpha.example.com.au and bravo.example.com.au will not? and my namespace domains like: citdemo.cit.act.edu.au and matrix.cit.act.edu.au have no chance of sharing the cookie?
sorry but need to understand restrictions
Whatever domain you set will be used by the cookie. In your case, set the domain to cit.act.edu.au so all the sub-domains share the same cookie. You can set the domain as high as you want.
