Timeline for MySource 4

Hi,

it was a long time since I last looked into MySource Matrix or this forum.

I searched for info about the version 4 of MySource which as long as I can remember have been for development for a long time now.

Do you have any prognoses or timeline for that project? Any other kind of info about the project?

Regards,

Daniel

MySource4 has been in development for about a year now, with at least another year or so to go before we release the first public beta versions. Though, this is conjecture and only Greg would know the accurate timelines. :)

There is no timeline for MySource4, but it was demonstrated at the MySource Matrix International User Conference last year. That demonstration is not available, so you'll have to rely on the comments of those who were there.

At the moment, we are focused on getting out the PHP5 release of MySource Matrix and building all the features sold at the feature bazaar at the conference, so MySource Matrix will be going strong for a long time to come.

Hi Greg,

I've been out of the MySource loop for a while now but I was wondering - one year on from your post, any updates on MySource 4?

I guess modularity and a written-from-scratch PHP5 source code where the two things that were interesting me. I'll give Matrix a spin in the coming weeks as well as I guess it must have evolved a bit since Oct. 2006 (v3.6-3.8?).

Cheers.

Squiz will be releasing MySource Mini in March. MySource Mini is a light-weight version of MySource4, but uses all the same architecture and interfaces. MySource4 has no release date, but will be an extended version of MySource Mini (more feature basically).

Hello Greg, just a quick question,

I will be starting a conservation-oriented site that requires MySource Matrix functionality, in the next couple of months. Based on the MySource Mini video, I am tempted to wait for it to be released in March but am not sure.

When released in March, will MySource Mini be available for free use in the same way that MySource Matrix is currently available?; Will it have similar software / hardware requirements (so I know which hosting solution to select)?

Thanks in advance,

Bjorn.

Greg can follow up on this as well, but I thought I would interject.

What is being released in March is MySource Mini, which is an appliance. It will be a hardware server solution with MySource Mini pre-installed. So you buy the whole package, hardware and software from Squiz. So, in that sense, MySource Mini won't be open source nor available for download because it will only be available as a hardware/software package.

I do know that when the full MySource4 is released that it will be open source and downloadable for free. But again, there is no release date for this.

Thanks nnhubbard, another question on this,

it sounds that if I want to get a free site up and running in the next couple of months, as I am planning, that I should go with the current MySource Matrix.

Any idea of how difficult it would be to switch over to to MySource4 once released as open source. I expect my site not to be too complex, just a lot of tagged images and articles listed in a variety of ways.

Thanks,

Bjorn.

I can't really help you on how difficult it would be. But I do know that there will be an upgrade path from Matrix to MySource4, at least that is what I was told. Now, how difficult that may be I am not sure.

I would definitely recommend just going with Matrix for now, MySource4 won't be out for a while. Matrix is full featured while MySource4 will be a while before it gains all of the features that Matix has and we are all used to.

Thanks Nic,

I will do that. Hopefully the upgrade in a year or so won't be too difficult.

Best regards, Bjorn.

Thanks Nic. You answered all those questions exactly as I would have.
