Too many customisation = lag?

Hi all

YES ITS FRIDAY

Anyway, I remember from training, I was told something like 'too many customisations will slow things down'

I was wondering if someone could elaborate on this…?

How much is 'too many', and what are some good ways of optimising my designs/customisations?

thanks!

Too many customisations makes parsing a design very time-consuming to impossible (once you go over the “too many” value). It does not affect Matrix’s performance in any other way.

Historically, we used to recommend 5 - 10 customisations, but in later versions (v3.10+) we’ve been able to have over 30 customisations without significant impact. However, the amount is determined by the size of your system and the resources available (hardware, memory, CPU etc). Essentially, you’ll need to see how your own system responds – each time you create a new customisation, attempt to parse the parent design manually. It will get progressively slower. You’ll need to determine how many customisations your system can support before it becomes too slow or fails.

Thanks for that Avi.

What do you by ‘parse the parent design manually’, and how do I do that? Ta

On the details screen of the Design, there is a checkbox next to "Manual" labelled "Reparse the design file". Check that then commit.
