I have two triggers to set the future status of a page over a 24hour period but they seem to slip out if time.
First trigger checks the status of a page if its Under Construction (UC) the Future Status is set to make it live 20 hours after the trigger has fired.
Second trigger checks the status of a page if its Live and then sets the Future Status is set to make it UC 4 hours after the trigger has fired.
So by doing this I should get a cycle of making a page Live and UC over a 24 hour period.
So if I start the process by making the page Live at 4pm, at 8pm the page goes UC (as the trigger has fired after 4 hours) and 20 hours later which is 4pm the next day it goes Live again (as the trigger has fired after 20 hours).
However it seems not to work and slips out of time. After a few days I end up with my page Live 10pm and then UC at 2am and this continues!
So whats the problem?
You'll need to look at the asset to see the exact time the future status is being set for. The Future Status job should be visible on the Details screen of the asset itself. Essentially, I'm guessing its because we work in 15 minute increments that its bumping up by 15 minutes each time. You may need to tweak your trigger so that it gets applied for slightly less than 20 hours (say, 19 hours and 45 minutes).
I'll give it ago and see what happens.
(I have to say though using triggers to perform a repeated scheduled event seems a bit long winded)
You could write your own Cron Manager job for it, if you wanted -- or get us to do it. :)
Double-posting to say that your original problem of only having content visible during a certain period could actually be solved by a new condition available to both the show if design area as well as the paint layout conditions.
I am wondering if I am having this same issue. A few of my cron jobs are set to run at 00:15, and all of them just ran at 18:35. Could this be the same issue?
Cron seems to be set at the correct time.
You'll have to watch and see what time they reset to.
Well, the cron jobs ran again, but this time at 10:15. From the log:
10:15:03 - 15 May
User: Root User (12)
Level: MySource Notice
[cron.job.success.incomplete - ] (Refresh Cache Cron Job Success) - Refresh Cache "Homepage Layout" [#7077]
Scheduled : Next run 00:15 on 16 May, 2008. Repeating every 1 days
Successful, but there is more work to do
