Triggers and asset attribute

I am making a page for people to advertise their restaurant. They put in the info using an asset builder, which is organised by an asset list.

The assets need to be able to be browsed both by suburb and by cuisine, preferably by dropdowns.

I thought that if I used selectable save locations to organise into suburb folders, I could then set a trigger that makes a link to a cuisine type folder.

But now it seems like triggers can't be set by metadata values… or at least I don't know how!

How do I get my attribute value to be a metadata value?

Or is there a smarter way of creating the link?

Why don't you have two selectable create locations on your Asset Builder, one set for location and another for cuisine. That way, the asset builder will create the asset in both places at the same time.

Yes, I did that as a trial option and may fall back on it in the end, but then I have two assets to try and keep identical in the future if they need editing.

Also, even though the select location keywords came up in the drop-down on my customised create form, I couldn't get %suburb_field% to show on the front end, it just blanked out. It shows fine in the logged in body copy, just not on the form part. Which is weird, but whatever I guess!

I haven't really used linking before, but it seemed like now was the time. Perhaps I have the concept of linking wrong? When you want an asset to act like it is in two seperate folders but you only have one asset, right?

Why not just use a link manager page for this? And pass the newly created assets id to the link manager page, then you can link it into which ever folder you want.

It's not like it's in two separate folders: it IS. :) When the asset builder creates in two locations, it is a single asset being linked in multiple places. You don't have to keep them identical, because it is the same asset. I'm pretty sure it's exactly what you're after.

Yup, that's what I want!

I've never used the link manager before, but after some play I think I have the basics sorted out now (the manual could maybe use an example or two..).

I'm not attempting to pass the created asset or anything to it yet... walk before running! But after clicking the submit button, while in the backend it links the asset to the chosen places perfectly, on the frontend instead of going to some sort of success page it just loads up the list manager page again.

I'm looking for a created page to edit in the backend... am I blind or does it not exist? How do I get users navigated away from the link manager after the submit button is pressed and the link is made?

Is someone able to explain the correct behaviour of a link manager page after the submit button is pressed, and how to make it so that users go to a success page rather than refreshing the link manager page?

I am not sure this is possible, as the "Success" notice gets put back in the same page, at least this is how it works for us. Why are you needing a success page when there is a notice that the assets have been correctly linked? Did you add the %success_messages_list% and %error_messages_list% keywords to the Page Contents?

There is no "Created" page, as this is basicly a special kind of asset listing.

No, no I did not. Yup, it makes so much more sense to me with the messages!

Now I will go back to your instructions you gave me when I was building an image uploader to pass the assetid to the link manager. ;)

Thanks for the help Avi and nnhubbard!

Happy to help. Let me know if you have any more questions about it.

Works perfectly, thanks again!
