I've just replaced an asset listing asset that was showing calendar events with an upcoming events list - seemed like an obvious swap when what I wanted to show was the next 6 events happening, and the old asset listing was showing a "random" set of events including things in the past (not really random but it appeared so to the casual observer of the results!).
However, I've since spotted a pretty fatal flaw… whereas the asset listing asset has an option to select what status assets it lists (i.e. only show live event assets) the upcoming event list doesn't seem to have any such option, and doesn't default to live only. It shows things that are under review and archived, and probably all the others as well.
Is that "by design"? Does anyone have a cool tip for either (1) making the upcoming event list show only live assets or (2) a combination of sort order and other settings on an asset listing asset to make it behave exactly like an upcoming event list?

P.S. another annoying difference… asset listing asset has a %asset_position% keyword which is handy, I've worked around it but would be nice if upcoming event supported that too
Are you sure you are not just previewing it as a logged in user with permissions?
