Question on URLs - sorry if the answer is obvious, I'm still a bit of a newbie.
I've got a client with a carefully thought out assets structure, which enables menus, sitemaps, permissions, indexing etc.
The client has now decided that their URLs are too long in terms of usability and SEO. So they want URLs like {domain}/email-marketing-solutions/email-marketing-company/contact-us-for-an-email-marketing-solution to be {domain}/contact-us-for-an-email-marketing-solution.
So, is there a way that an asset can be assigned permanently a shorter version of the URL, either using Matrix, or some kind of Apache-level wizardry?
All suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Have you looked into using the remap manager?
This can shorten URLS, but it just redirects the short url to the long one. So, creating a navigation using these short URLs is not really possible.
