Hi folks,
Probably quite a basic question but where is it in the system that decides who gets the automatically generated email when someone forcibly aquires locks? Is it all users with admin permissions? Email looks a bit like this:
"User "x" has forcibly acquired the Links lock on PDF File "x", formerly held by user "x""
Folk are getting confused as to why they are receiving this email and I'm trying to find a neat solution.

I have checked the code on latest Matrix version. Matrix will only send that message to the "former user" who held the lock, it could be user, user group or a role.
It all makes sense to me.
Can you describe a bit more about your situation, like what version is your matrix. and exactly who got those emails?
does those people relate to this asset at all?

I know this is a bit old now, but if it helps, I experienced this just recently, I had to forcibly acquire a lock, and all (or at least many) of our staff (past and present) got about 16 emails each. Needless to say I got a public shaming :-S Running Matrix 5.1.2.1

Sorry this reply is probably a bit late but running 4.18.0 we had this issue as well. It will email every user that has write and admin access to the asset. We never forcibly acquire the lock - we contact the user and ask them to release the locks if they are finished with the asset. We had an incident when a style sheet and all images were forcibly acquired - alllllooot of emails to our admins. eeeiiikkk
