User Restriction Screen

Howdy All,

Ive just come across the new screen for users "restrictions". It seems that you can restrict a user so that they can only access Matrix through the simple edit interface. Sounds like a very cool feature, yet it doesnt seem to work. Has anyone used this feature and can give me more details of how to use it?

thanks

The Restrictions page for a User is to configure Matrix to consider a user a member of one or more user groups based on a condition.

For example, you can make the Public User a member of a user group that has Read access to a restricted section of your site. Then, using the restrictions page, you can configure Matrix to only consider the Public User a member of this group when the IP address of the user matches a particular pattern.

In this way, local users need not authenticate for restricted content, while remote users would. There are a number of conditions available, so there is a lot of flexibility here.

Thanks Avi,

how would you use the simple edit condition? Can it be used to restrict users logging in only via simple edit interface?

Cheers

Nat

The restrictions page lists all the available conditions. Conditions are global to Matrix and are used in several locations (i.e. Show If design area, Paint Layouts, User Restrictions). Some make less sense in the User Restrictions context than others. In this case, the Simple Edit Mode condition would resolve true IF the session was in Simple Edit mode.

So you could change a user’s permission (by changing their group membership) as they shift into or out of Simple Edit.
