Users and Simple Edit

I have created a 'Details' Simple Edit layout for a new 3.14.1 install however only certain users can completely load it - root and sys admin users.


In the site's permissions I have granted roles write access and even admin access. The roles have been associated with backend users. When these users attempt to enter simple edit the design loads, the content disappears and none of the simple edit functions are there - all visible when logged in as root or a sys admin. Checking the admin interface the backend user has successfully acquired the lock on the details screen.



I thought it might be an issue with roles at first so then I granted these backend users direct permissions on teh site but it had no effect.



Can only 'Users' enter enter simple edit? I would like them to access the back-end as well.

Check the permissions on the layouts themselves – you need to grant read permission for you backend users to these layouts.


Users cannot access simple edit, only Backend Users can.

Can I give the roles read permission to the layouts?

Scrap that. Tried - didn't work.

I've now given the actual backend users read permission and it is working as required.

You can, as long as you remember to assign specific user groups to those roles on the layout assets as well. :)

It's going to be easier to give the layouts public read access. Thanks for your help.
