Where is htaccess in Matrix?

(Tim Mcqueen) #1

Hello all,

Surprisingly, up until now I have never had to use .htaccess . I have done abit of web surfing and come up with (what I hope will be) the coding I need to put into the .htaccess file to redirect my /home to the base URL.

Now, I just need to find the .htaccess file. Our system is hosted on the Squiz server, I have a System Admin account type.

If there is an existing .htaccess file set up, will it be found in the navigation tree under my site? (I can't see one). If so, no problem, I can create one.

If not, where will it likely be found?

(I have had a browse through all the System Config sections, but not seen reference to it yet).

Thanks,

Emily.

This wouldn't be something that you would be able to change inside of the Matrix interface. Matrix uses Apache Virtual Host for these sort of things so there isn't a .htaccess file.

Have you tried using the Remap Manager for what you are trying to do?

Ahh, ok. Thanks.

There are 2 things I wanted to use the .htaccess for. The most important being the request to redirecting the /home to the base URL. This has been requested for SEO purposes, as the links are getting split between the base URL and the /home URL, and they would like it to all point to the base URL (for page authority reasons).

The second task being to do with Canonical URLs; again for SEO primarily.

Do you know another way I can do these within the Matrix system?

I found this old post, but it only lists .htaccess as the way:

Thanks,

Emily.

Yes, you can do this in your VirtualHost block really easily. You say that Squiz hosts your server? If this is the case you will probably have to get them to make these changes.

Hi Nic,

Ah, ok. I will contact them about this then.

Thanks!

You can put .htaccess into squiz_matrix/core/web/ directory

Hi Emily,

I was able to sort out the canonical issue with asset listing.

See the thread here: http://forums.squizsuite.net/index.php?showtopic=11379

It took a bit long for Google Webmaster tools to start picking all the pages up, and I have noticed 50% drop in duplicate metadata and url.
