Will 3.12 RC be out today?

Just wondering if 3.12 RC would be out today or soon, or is it only for clients? Greg had mentioned that it would be out on the 4th of Dec.

There are one or two more features that we want to add before we release the RC. Its due out pretty soon though.

Version numbering is Odd for development versions and Even for Release versions. v3.11 is the current development version internally. You’ll notice that all our releases are even (3.2, 3.4, 3.6, 3.8, etc).

Once 3.12 is released, we’ll start work on v3.13 internally which will be released as 3.14.

Make sense?

Yep sure does… makes perfect sense, just about to fire an email off to the project heads advising to upgrade to stable release 3.10.4

would we be able to go from 3.10.1 --> 3.10.4 commercial without too much troubles?

You should always check any version-specific stuff at http://matrix.squiz.net/resources/upgrading – from the look of things, you’ll need to reparse your designs, regenerate your metadata and check your cron command line after the upgrade.

Yeah saw that, but somewhere I thought I read something about filesystem changes or something that could have some effect, or is that relating to future release

If there are any changes/manual modifications required, they will be explained on the appropriate upgrading page on the Matrix website.

If you have a lot of metadata you probably want to discuss it with Squiz as that part of the process took a very long time (24 hrs) on my server and in the end it was skipped.

we will be testing all upgrades on our dev version first, with a current snapshot, but thanks for the advise…

This is why we’ve removed the automatic regeneration from step_03.php and rather added the manual step to the upgrade instructions. Also, you may see significant performance boosts if you disable the search manager while you regenerate (as you don’t really need to reindex at the same time).

Could somebody post a screenshot of the Visual Difference tool that is mentioned in the changelog? I've not got a spare server available to test on currently.

On my test system, it looks like the attached image. The word "standard" was removed and the words "This is new content" were added.
