Asset map - keeping sort order

(Tim Davison) #1

Quick question: is there any way to keep assets sorted in the asset map? Or alternatively have the most recently created assets at the top? I know we can manually sort using the asset sorting tool, but we would like this sort order maintained as assets are added (and of course only for specific assets and their children).

We have authors/publishers who are tired of having to scroll through long lists of old news items, policy docs, etc.

Alternatively, anyone have any clever ways they’ve dealt with this problem?

Cheers

One of the solutions we sometimes use with news or similar content types where there’s going to be a growing collection is to setup an asset listing to make it easy to review and edit recent items - providing handy preview / edit links, and showing all the details e.g. published date, publishing author, original author.

Combined with some sort options and an understanding of how to search for a particular story it seems to work ok.

Hey Tim,
This is a feature that has been requested a few times and is in discussion in our roadmap atm. We don’t have a final specification or solution of how to implement it yet, but we are committed into developing something for it. Most likely on the linking screen of an asset so that you can set the default sort order there.

Another workaround alternative is to break up your news and docs into month or year folders perhaps? These could potentially be created automatically whenever a new year/month has been reached and authors could then maybe publish the assets in there to make them more maintainable?
