Automatic upgrade

(Gjboyd7) #1

In this guide, http://manuals.matrix.squizsuite.net/server-administrator/chapters/automatic-updates

it mentions "Visit http://downloads.squiz.net/matrix-automatic-upgrades to download the automatic upgrade script. Have your username and password ready; these will have been provided to you by Squiz.

How do you get a username and password?  Is the auto upgrade open-source?

This is not for Matrix 5, but only for the 4.x branch. I am sure you can still get the scripts if you contact Squiz.

No, the upgrade scripts were never open-source.

How do you upgrade to matrix 5?  Is the latest version "5" open source?

Bart can explain more, but yes, Matrix 5 is open-source and is released as a VM download on the Manuals site. The upgrade scripts are still however, not open-source and you would need to talk with Squiz about obtaining those.

Ok, so upgrade scripts are not open-source.  Is there a way of manually upgrading from Matrix 4 to Matrix 5 then?  I already have an installation of Matrix 4 setup on a server, so the vm is not what I am after.

There hasn't been manual upgrade instructions for quite some time unfortunately. Bart will have to be the one to comment on if these will be posted.

Hi Gavin,

adding onto what Nic said, the only way to publicly get a copy of Matrix 5 at the moment is via the VM on the manuals website, you can simply just copy the source files from there and put them on your matrix server and merge them in via the automatic upgrade script (if you have it already), or via some other tools such as Git.

Thanks I will try Github to merge the new files in.  Are there particular directories I would need to update the files in?  Or do I need to look at updating across all directories.

Hi Bart,

I've been trying to setup the Matrix 5 VM with Virtual Box, but having difficulty aquiring the inet addr with the ipconfig eth0 command.

Is it possible to use Virtual Box or is it strictly VMware or VMware Fusion?

Thanks.

(Benjamin Pearson) #11

no Virtualbox will be fine, I use it all the time (VMWare gives me some much grief). Have you tried switching between NAT and bridged?

(Tbaatar) #12

I tried using NAT and Bridget Adapter method but still doesn't recognise the ipconfig eth0 command.

See screenshot.

Are there any other settings I need to configure?

Thanks.

(Marcus Fong) #13

“ipconfig” is the Windows command.

On Linux it’s “ifconfig”.

(Tbaatar) #14

Thanks Marcus.

That was easy :)

Getting back to the Matrix 5 'upgrade' question.  Are there particular directories which we should look at merging the Matrix 5 files into, and ones that should be left alone?

You are trying to do an upgrade? I would be super careful about that, since there are likely DB steps that need to be run as well...
