Didn't you think guys of offering Matrix hosted services on AWS?
I mean Amazon Cloud (EC3) to run instances and S3 storage to store data.
Looks like very flexible indeed - no investment in hardware, you pay for what yo use.
You can expand from 2 servers to 22 in half a day and back in a week time. I recall HomeSite presentation from conference.
Imagine by having typical installs (images) at S3 you can just load as many web and database images to EC3 launch them and pass username/password to client.
The final question will be - $ savings and customers desire to run there, I guess.
Oh yes, you know that I am not affiliated with Amazon.
AWS (Amazon Web Services)
I hadn't heard of AWS before, so thanks for the info.

I think that's probably the big question. If a client wanted to run on a specific platform, like AWS, we would take a look into it.
Most of offerings are in beta - not too late to start thinking this way.
I hit it accidentally too and now want to find an RSS feed which will just keep me up to date on Internet developments.
Makes sense if there is a demand for Matrix hosted environment business.
Basically I want to pay monthly fees and be able to update my web site via Matrix interface. You please maintain availability, upgrades, system capacity and backups.
They charge by utilisation, so it may become costly. It would hard to estimate the amount of processing a Matrix site may do.
Yes - if I would be in charge for designing this calculator I did it in a way to make it easier to compare dedicated web hosting and Amazon Web service side by side.
This is the same task as comparison of two or more cars - price and features. Some things like ‘fuel consumption’ are always there and some features can not be put into single line.
Art here is to compare Mazda3 with Lamborghini Murcielago. This is how this task coded by this calculator.

Like it? Why?
Your warning materialised in JungleDisk Forum 1 and JungleDisk Forum 1
It is especially hard to estimate if Amazon will continue to play with prices which leads to higher costs for some customers.
Another interesting moment is their fees structure:
Storage
$0.15 per GB-Month of storage used
I can not find anywere how they count it.
Is it average per month or per day and what is a formula to calculate?
- Emailed Amazon with question about Storage calculation
Answer was typical for "mammoth". We will pass it to … . You can use our service, look at your bill and figure out how we count.
Imagine your mobile provider will tell it to you
- Talked to JungleDisk guys suggesting to create a free version of their software which will work as licensed version with the only exception - it will not pass any data to AWS (won't even require AWS credentials to work) but will count usage and will give you your AWS bill and traffic estimates. You basically work with it as you are planning to work and look how much it will cost you to back up that F drive.
As with all such services we pay much more for usage than for mobile (hardware). Their concern - some dummies will use free version and think that it actually backups their data to AWS and sue JungleDisk. So they see more troubles this way than it is now.
