Best way to create tables that include icon/ symbols

#1

Hi all,
I’m wondering if anyone can recommend the best approach to adding in icons/symbols in table rows on a page. I have a table which has “tick and cross” in rows. Is it easier to:

  • upload individual icons (possibly as images??) and insert them in the table rows? (these will be the same size and colour etc)
  • upload the table as an image instead
  • use symbols in table rows
  • use yes/no text instead
    Thanks

Hi @Sairab,

For accessibility, it’s probably best to use ‘yes’ and ‘no’. This will allow a screen reader to read aloud the words in the table.

You mentioned symbols. Do you mean symbols in the WYSIWYG editor? In the Mathematics tab, there is a ‘x’. Is that any good? (see below).

@lewis thanks for your response. I meant the tick and cross as a symbol (in a word doc) example and not the symbols in the WYSIWYG editor - which doesn’t seem to have a ‘tick’ only a ‘x’ like you point out.
The other alternative is to use tick and cross as an image in each cell with alt text which would meet accessibility requirements.

Ah yeah, sorry - forgot about the tick too @Sairab! :frowning:

How’s about HTML entities?
