Cannot clear cache on design parse file

(Jlouise) #1

I have a strange problem…
I am designing a new site. Installed a new design file linked up the css etc etc…The design worked until I went to make changes to the parse file.

The problem is it is not taking any new content… what i mean is whatever we put in the parse file is now not being displayed on the front end and I realised it must be a cache issue… how did I come to this conclusion? I took out the whole design from the parse file - deleted every word and code. and the front end is still displaying normally. How is that even possible unless it is caching somewhere…

THe design is totally different to any other design we have in other sites so it cannot be pulling code from another site.

I have tried to refresh the cache on every level possible in the new site. Besides deleting everything and starting again (which I dont wish to do) I am not sure what to try next to fix this.

Hi Jacinta

Do you see the changes when previewing under the _nocache url or is that not budging either?

(Jlouise) #3

Hi, nope not budging either…/_nocache usually forces the issue but not in this case.
Even tried openening in new browser that have not used before to see if we can see the change, to no avail…

Maybe try the _recache to force the issue but it seems you may have proxy issues rather than a Matrix problem.

(Shane Weddell) #5

Another thing you can do is point the clear cache tool at the design asset rather than just the site.

(Jlouise) #6

Have tried all this - but thank you for your thoughts…

(Robin Shi) #7

I would think if the URL with _nocache has not been accessed the proxy doesn't cache the page. Are you sure the asset you previewing has been applied that design Jaci?

(Shane Weddell) #8

Have you tried manually re-parsing the design? little checkbox on the details screen of the design asset.

If you preview the site through the admin interface it is likely that _nochache could have been cached by a proxy, I have seen it before.

If nothing else works PM me and I will give you the set of swear words that you shout at it to make it do what you want

Hi guys
Thank you for all your help

The design has been applied correctly

Tried manually to reparse the file and still no good

Got a friend (yes even phoning a friend -thats how desparate we are becoming) to log in and check from another computer in another suburn and still seeign the same thing (even though design code was deleted)

We are not sure how this is even possible… can somebody have a chat to the gremlins for us… it makes no sense…

(Shane Weddell) #11

What version of Matrix are you doing this in?

(Jlouise) #12

We do keep getting an error when trying to parse the file…maybe this is causing the problem
What does "there are missing tags for this tag mean from locale manager" – this is all it says - there are no missing tags…I promise…

We have managed to repoint the design and it picked up the new design… then repoint it back. this fixed the cache issue… but it seems we are goign to have to do this every time we mnake a change to the parse file to see the new change…hmmmm never had this issue with other designs…

I would add a tutorial for it but Greg has warned me before for using bad words so I would probably get banned

This is a family show you know.

Locale provides text for descriptions in the interface and other stuff in Matrix. That is what you translate into other languages if you want to use Matrix and you don't speak English. Apart from not speaking English making it hard to translate it.

If the tags for parts of your interface are not in the Locale file then Matrix will use it's own set of swear words at you, as you know  A Matrix dev could tell you if this is causing the issues you are experiencing.

Jaci did you get sort of 'timeout' error when updating the parse file? Is that parse file in the area of auto clear cache trigger covers? I am really worried that the parse file updating was failed.

no - no time out errors…

Sorry but i have no idea what you mean by "Is that parse file in the area of auto clear cache trigger covers?"

(Robin Shi) #18

if the parse file was updated smoothly and successfully, say after clicking 'commit' the page in admin interface was reloaded in a reasonable while, you don't need to worry about the trigger thing. Would you PM me the URL for a look?

Now when we are putting new design areas in - the customisation is not picking these up - so it looks liek the design is not even getting parsed…

We have tried to manually parse the design many many times…

We are going to delete everything and start again… cause this is just way to weird. Unless any one else has any ideas???

Thank you everyone for your help we will let you know how we go with a new fresh design
