Changing the uploaded file of an incomplete form

(Ryan Archer) #1

Having a small issue whereby it's not possible to clear an uploaded form from a resumed 'incomplete form' within a multi page custom form.

So someone saves the form say at page 4 after they have selected a file to upload (its a required field). Then their manager gets sent the details to resume the form and wants to clear the original upload and put up a new version of the file. Can't see the option to 'clear' the file upload. This was something I'm pretty sure we saw in Squiz Matrix before we upgraded late last year.

However, what's even stranger that on the next page there is an option file upload and that can be cleared and a different file uploaded.

Also what else is strange is the different ways that the browsers display this functionality. Is this normal behaviour?

I've never experienced this recently myself, but from a previous form I did a while ago it allowed me to upload a new file by simply clicking on the browse button again. The file upload field will appear differently to different browsers as they all handle the styling differently, so that's normal.

I'd say we'd probably have to review the form you have created directly to see if there is an easy fix to it or if it's a matrix bug.

Is this a publicly available form or something you can upload here as an export as a replication?

Hi Bart,

Yes did try what you suggested and upload a new file by performing the browse and upload operation again - but this causes a form validation error and the user cannot progress within the form.

Be good if the browsers handled this functionality in a systematic way but that is probably asking too much. I can make the form publicly available now - do you think you would be able to look at it today/tomorrow?

I could try, or I'll get someone else to have a look. I'm currently in London so my timing might be a bit off with when you are working on it.

Ok, we have done bunch more tests on it and can't seem to replicate the issue (validation preventing form completion) happening again. It is strange why on only the optional upload you have the checkbox to clear the upload but the mandatory file upload you have to upload over the top of the current file and no option to clear it.

Probably not worth your while to look into it at this stage if we are unable to reproduce the validation error.

Thanks for looking into it though. Enjoying london? I hear from my old man its a bit chilly....

Haha, yea it's very cold. Especially after coming from 30C+ in Brisbane!
