Hi all,
I am looking through the jungle of CMS systems right now. Matrix is quite appealing as is Classic.
I can't use Matrix unfortunately, because my web host doesn't have some of the requirements. It is a friend of mine which means I might be lucky and talk him into installing PostgreSQL and some of the PEAR modules, but I wouldn't bet on it.
My question is plain simple. Does it make sense to use the "old" Classic? Matrix is the successor to Classic, right? Or are they two individually developed products? Will Classic become obsolete in some months? It is quite confusing to have both products available and both are the same, but aren't. You know what I mean?
You very interested, but very confused
Alex
While Matrix is the successor to Classic (v3.0 vs. v2.0), Classic is still being developed and is a very capable CMS for small to medium sized websites. Classic also has more extra modules available, as it has been around for longer.
I guess it all depends on how large you feel your site will get, and what functionality your site needs to have. Matrix was designed for very large sites (10,000+ pages), while Classic really shines on sites smaller than 1,000 pages.
Required PEAR modules can be installed by you inside 'php_includes' (you can already find one or two there). The minimum you need your friend to install is PostgreSQL, which is a good thing to have anyway.
Thanks for shedding some light into this guys. I will see if I can convince my pal to install PostgrSQl on his server.
