Column widths in asset finder Edit+

(Mitchell Essex) #1

We are using EES Build 1738+ and some of our users have mentioned that they are having trouble finding the right asset.

Is there an easy way of increasing the column widths in the asset finder we have a lot of content where names are being cut off.

You might be able to overwrite the CSS that controls that part with some minor rules that can be included in your EES standard page nester, that's probably the easiest work around.

It does raise a good point though that that font size is probably too big. Resizeable colums would be awesome to.

Like the admin interface (and its setting to change width) would probably be better added as a new feature request to provide a config option to vary column widths. I'll add this to the roadmap.

We are currently reviewing a new feature to allow search in the asset find which would probably solve this problem as well.

Hey Guys,

With really big sites we are seeing this to be a major issue. Site assets with 6000 plus news items. But I have seen this in smaller sites too. I’ve seen this happen particularly in Google chrome and Internet Explorer version 9. We get a really muddled display and it makes the asset finder really unusable and it frustrates our users. I have asked the team member to check they are running the latest versions of the browsers ( They are getting back to me with this info)

We have been able to suggest ways that users can double check their location  to they are not accidentally creating items in the wrong location.

Has anyone worked out how to fix the display for Windows Operating Systems. I’ve tested the EES+ using the latest version of Firefox and Chrome on My Mac, but again Macs are just a small portion of the Uni’s computer fleet.

Gasp you say!

Again I bet this is sorted in Matrix 5 and I’ll get the upgrade fuzz response

Hi Fuzzi, can you explain a bit more to what your issue is? Is it just as the original post mentioned that the column widths are too narrow? Or is there actually a display issue? If so, what version of Edit+  and browser are you using where this issue happens?

#6

Hey Bart! You must never stop! Thanks for having a look at this. The issue is that assets are all jumbled in the columns. Some cannot even be seen they are just blank.some have a line through the asset. You have to just select it to see what asset appears.

We are running matrix 4.18.0 and EES 1.5.0.

I’ve seen the issue particularly on windows 7 environments running either chrome or Internet explorer 9 and up.

Windows OS is our dominant fleet running 8 at the lowers end ( old XP machines ) 9 and 10 are baseline standard . Had you seen this?

Hey Bart! Did the above info help at all?

Hi fuzzi,

i remember your issue being reported, as well in the forums, but can't seem to be able to dig it up. Your issue seems to be unrelated to the original post, but i remember it being caused by browser zoom levels and/or compatibility settings in IE. I only saw this once myself but I can't remember how it got fixed, I haven't seen it again or reported again.

Is it something you can consistently replicate on multiple machines with a specific browser type and version? A screenshot of what you are seeing and any browser settings used such as zoom and browser and document type (IE specific) would help as well.

Hey Bart we have a user that can replicate on every browser on his windows machine.

I have a meeting tomorrow so I hope to get more specifics!

Hay Bart I checked will our user that was having the issue. This user was using initially Initernet explorer 8 on a windows 7 machine. My first thoughts were to upgrade the browser.

We also updated chrome to the latest version and the display was a little better. The first column in the asset finder was ok - but the second was muddled. The assets were not displaying nicely making it hard to select the assets.

The column widths are narrow as well - like the original post details.

Internet explorer aside - is there issues with chrome? I did also check your browser and OS specs for edit +(though it was specifically under matrix 5 which we are not on) It mentions only support for Internet explorer on XP machines not windows 7. Is this still current ? We are are in the process of phasing out XP.

Internet Explorer versions 8, 9, 10 and 11 for Windows XP SP3+

I think they mean XP or newer

(Bart Banda) #13

Yes, as Ben says, its support for Windows XP and above.

Thanks for the additional information fuzzi, the narrow column widths are just the way it has been designed. I'm pretty sure there is a ticket in roadmap to get this looked at, even if it's just reducing the font-size of those columns so more text can fit.

I'm not sure about the "muddled" issue as I would need a screenshot to compare with and review, however, Chrome in Edit+ 1.5.0 is supported and haven't had any issues in the past. The only issue with the columns being all over the place has been with IE and it being rendered in compatibility, quirks or IE7 mode and/or having non-default zoom levels set.

Hey Bart,

As promised here is an example of the display and what I am referring to.

Hey Fuzzi,

Try this forum topic http://forums.squizsuite.net/index.php?showtopic=9751&hl=. It seems there are issues when your browser is zoomed to a different level to standard as well as windows zoom not being the normal. Windows zoom affects firefox zoom but not chrome zoom.

Try checking out the zoom levels on Firefox and Windows text size on the user's computer. I had this problem as I set my font sizes up on windows, as a simple fix you can Ctrl+(minus) twice on firefox I believe to set it back to normal, though if you ever reset the zoom Ctrl+(zero) it will go back to being a problem

Thanks Chris, I was trying to find that thread but had no luck.

Fuzzi, that certainly looks like a browser zoom issue. I do however recommend that you log a support ticket for this so that it can be properly looked at by our support team for further investigation.

Thanks Chris and Bart!

Man I hope thats all it is!

It has got to support ticket point though and yes will use the teams advice and I'm sure they'll sort it out!

cheers again

You have to be kidding me - it was browser zoom in Internet explorer! Urgh thanks guys.
