Export files

(autjoe) #1

Hi  there,

I tried to use export files tool to make a copy of all files associated with a subsite (the site is under a standard page), but the .tar.gz is empty.

Does the Root Node have to be a folder asset? and how do I export the related documents and images, which are located in under another root node?

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have to be a folder, should work on any type of root node. What other asset types are under the standard page? And what version of Matrix are you using?

Root definitely doesn’t need to be a folder it can be any asset type. I’ve relied on it heavily in the past and not had any major issues other than design assets and some nested divs that get a bit corrupt. But it won’t magically find related resources elsewhere on your site.

If related / dependent assets already exist on the target with identical asset Id then it doesn’t matter, they will link up fine. If they don’t exist and you want to export them then just include them in the export - you can specify multiple roots in same export. It’s critical you do include all in one single export - if you try and do it in more than one export then the import routine can’t patch up all the id’s to preserve the dependencies between them. Final scenario if you have the assets on the target already but they have different asset id’s from the source then I’m afraid you are out of luck. You would have to go patch everything up manually.

Thanks, I still couldn't use this tool to export all pages. I used a third party tool to do this job instead.
