Before I go down the path of creating a Facebook Messenger Chatbot, I wanted to find out if anyone here has done something similar and have it interacting with Squiz Matrix? and what were the pros/cons?

I agreed with your point, developing from scratch take lengthly process. The best choice will be readymade solution. As I experienced on Contus Bot like Facebook messenger chatbot.
