Can we get this turned off please? Or the time set to something much less than 20 seconds?
Every time I come here to look something up, I find I'm massively frustrated as I have to wait to try new search terms.
Maybe allow logged in users to bypass flood control.
Cheers,
I agree. It is pretty annoying. Especially when I make a quick reply to a post, then try to do a second one, and I have to wait.
Any chance we can get this turned off? Is it really an issue?
Also, any chance we could get a Funnelback search setup for the forums? The searching is THE WORST! I don't think it has ever even found a search term that I have tried.
Please?
+1

If Nick agrees then that's settled then - make it so Squiz!
I turned off flood control for posting. I can't find any options regarding flood control for searching. I also can't find any settings for logged in users to bypass any controls like this as they seem to be system-wide settings.

Thanks Greg, we appreciate it!

I've sometimes noticed it even when I haven't done a search in 20 seconds, do a search, and get halted by the flood control system.
Of all the systems I've used, ranging from Oracle sized corporations down to small community run forums, this is the only one that I've ever encountered a flood control system on.
Which begs the question - what was the problem that led to Squiz having flood control on searching these forums?

I am sure it is just a default of Invision Power Board.

Correct. I haven't intentionally implemented any sort of search flood control. And, as I said, I can't even find an option anywhere in the admin interface that says it exists or to turn it off. If anyone has any idea, please let me know.

In the IPB Manual under the Security section, it says to disable flood control to leave the Flood Control Delay field blank.
The majority of your security settings are found at:
Admin CP -> TOOLS & SETTINGS -> Security & Privacy
There are also many useful security tools at:
Admin CP -> ADMIN -> Security Center

That flood control is only reported as being for posting, and that is the one I changed to blank. It doesn’t say anything about search though, so I’m really not sure if that change I made will have any effect.

It doesn't seem to have helped any.
Are there any settings under ACP > Member Groups > Manage User Groups ?
Sounds like it is a group setting.
Legend! I did find a flood control setting there, although the admin search didn't know where it was. Thankfully you did. This flood control setting says it is specifically for searching and not for posting. I've turned it off.

Awesome, it is fixed!
This is great news!
Thanks Greg and Nic.
I had to add back some flood control for posting thanks to the new spammers obviously taking advantage of no posting limits. It is 10 seconds. I'll bump it up to 20 secs again if we get hit again. Sorry - not much I can do. But search flood control remains off.

No problem, thanks for letting us know.
Good work folks, excellent commumity feedback and Squiz response.
Hi,
The flood control in Search is really annoying. Any chance it can be removed or lowered to a couple of seconds?
