Forcing Safe Edit in Edit+

(Birdg) #1

Hi,

Is it possible to force Safe Edit in Edit+ (via a plugin or otherwise)...and if so, what are the pros and cons of doing this? Are there cases when forcing Safe Edit will cause problems for authors?

Thanks,

Graham

The easiest way to force safe edit is a workflow  users won’t be able to acquire the lock without putting the asset in safe edit.

We also have a trigger on edit accessed for our pages to at least pop them into safe edit. This doesn’t stop users canceling safe edit and then edit live - unless you have a workflow schema.

The trigger will at least be a least a form of safe guard.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. With the workflow option, can you give some more details about how that workflow is set up - we don't currently use workflow at all.

Thanks again,

Hey there,
It’s probably easier to have a look at the workflow manual http://manuals.matrix.squizsuite.net/asset-screens/chapters/workflow

Basically however you would need to create a new schema (workflow) and apply it to the nodes you wish to have workflow over. Usually you would apply it to your site asset. But it depends on what you would you want to force safe edit on.

We generally have basic one step workflow on our site.

Remember though workflows require approves and will add extra processes on getting your assets live. ( and everything will be under worklow - images the works)

So if you just want to throw your assets into safe edit then a trigger might just be enough. It’s deterred allot of editors from editing live for us.
