Help! Custom form not working

(C Faulkner) #1

I've had a custom form ready to go for the last week, just waiting for a document to be downloaded on the Thank you bodycopy page. I've tested and tested and it works, but as soon as it's gone live the form doesn't go to the thank you page, just refreshes the page as a blank form - help! This is for an event on Saturday so is critical!

I've cleared the cache on teh custom form asset, and now it doesn't even shoe the form - just goes straight to the Thank you bodycopy!

What version of Matrix are you using? Can you show us the link?

(C Faulkner) #4

Version 4.2.0 - the page now does show the form the first time you visit the page, but on successive visits it goes straight to the Than You body copy.

Page is at http://www.salford.ac.uk/believe/promotions for the link (travel on the left hand nav)

Just had to remove that page so it can now be accessed at www.salford.ac.uk/believe/travel

This morning the form is back to refreshing itself when submitted.

Did you nest the Custom Form into another asset such as a Standard Page? It seems that way to me. If so, you can't do this, and that is why you are having issues.

(C Faulkner) #7

Yep I did.

I've only learned to display custom forms through nesting them into a standard page. How do I display a custom form in a template without nesting?

Many thanks

Just tried linking straight to the form and it brings in all the design (didn't expect it to somehow…) and it seems to work - thanks!

You just need to put the page in your site heirachy just like you would any other page. But it seems like you got it figured out.

Yeah it seems to work OK now.

Any idea how I get a page title above the form though now since there's no WYSIWYG boxes above the custom form content?

Thanks

You can edit the page contents of the form and add whatever HTML in there that you want. Is this what you mean?

Yes I think it is - hadn't noticed the page contents before - thanks.

Ah the plot thickens. Now when I add some page content that shows up but the form doesn't! :frowning:

You should read up on Custom Forms in the Manuals.

What you just did was tell Matrix that you wanted to customize the page contents, which means that it won't print out the fields for you automatically. You now have to do this manually using keywords for the labels and fields as well as building the layout. Doing it this way IS the way to go in my opinion as you get so much more control.
