HIPO jobs not progressing in Chrome/completing in Firefox

(Douglas (@finnatic at @waikato)) #1

The following behaviour has started happening to be of late, and it's quite irritating.

I mostly work in Google Chrome on Windows, and when I move or link an asset, a HIPO window appears... and doesn't complete.

I can close the window, switch to Firefox and continue it there - but once completed, it doesn't transition back from the Hipo screen.

Any ideas anyone?

Hi,

When you say the HIPO doesn't complete, what is exactly happening? Is the progress bar stuck or the window is gone blank?
The stuck HIPO, can't it be resumed from HIPO Herder using Chrome?

"Google Chrome on Windows, and when I move or link an asset, a HIPO window appears... and doesn't complete."

-> the window appears, but then nothing seems to happen no matter how long I wait.

"switch to Firefox and continue it there - but once completed, it doesn't transition back from the Hipo screen."

-> the right hand pane shows the hipo task, the progress bar progresses, it hits completion and there's no screen change (this might be deliberate?)

Chrome is Version 28.0.1500.71 beta-m / Win7-64.

Do you have Squiz Server enabled? This can be checked on "Squiz Server Configuration" screen under System Configuration on admin interface.

In the error.log do you see any error registered when the HIPO is not loaded on Chrome? Also what version of Matrix are you using?

If its a new installation, then what is the Memory limit set to? (can be checked on System Configuration screen under PHP Configuration > Web Memory Limit)

Hi Ashish.

Yes, we have Squiz Server enabled on the system.  It's outputting a notice to the error.log when I restart the HIPO job (which I've found I can do in Chrome as well as Firefox):

"The Squiz Server reset the running mode to WEB for User ... and Job hipo_job_clone_assets-..."

There's nothing in the log for when the HIPO just seems to stall.  Matrix version is as my last Q/A - 4.10.4.  It's an existing installation, and the memory limit's sitting at half a gig from memory.

Curiously, having just used the HIPO herder to herd the latest occurrence of this, I'm now able to move and clone assets without the problem... Might the Squiz Server notice about resetting the running mode indicate a problem with our Squiz Server setup?

Looks like some issue with HIPO and Squiz Server. Might be worth switching off the Squiz Server and then trying the same process to see the outcome.

If you have steps to replicate the issue then it might be worth lodging a support ticket or even a bug report.
