How does version numbers work for assets

Matrix Version: 5.3.4.0

Hi all,

Ok after reading what is written on this page (https://matrix.squiz.net/manuals/asset-screens/chapters/settings#Versioning) about versions I would have thought the numbering system in the history would be straight forward however when I did the following the numbering changed in a somewhat strange way.

So I had a file set to waiting for approval. If I looked at the history for that file at that point in time it said 0.2.1. I then changed the status to reject changes and commited that and the file still remained at 0.2.1. I then cancelled the safe edit of that file and then when I checked the history again it changed it to 0.3.23???

First off why did the minor number change when I didn’t change the status to live and 2 why did the micro number jump 22 versions??

Yea the versioning increments are known to be buggy, we have fixed a few issues with it since that version, but there are still some more work we need to do in order to get it improved overall.
