How to assign a sort order in Asset lists

Hi everyone,

I’m new here and new to MySource -

I have a sample setup as below to asset list documents on the standard page.
• Standard Page

Folder

Documents

The Standard page has a global design applied to it to list all documents under the folder.
Example:

But...can't chose the sorting on Print. See below:

We have tried applying a metadata schema and sort on the metadata field of choice. However, the metadata field is a "text' only field and assigining numbers to each document to sort is very limiting (it's fine 1 to 9 but after that it prioritises as text).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can sort the list? Would appreciate it very much.

Why don't you just sort by Asset Name alphabetically?

Sort by asset id ?

You can't change asset ID after create. You could do it by created date though, because you can change that on the Settings screen. I still don't see why it can't be sorted by asset name though -- that's how it's sorted in the asset map after all.

If you set "Direct Links Only" on the asset listing's details screen and don't sort by anything, Matrix will sort those in tree order. You might need to link the word docs to the page directly for this to work in your case.

Thank you all for your replies. We are definitely looking to sort manually by tree order. Tried direct links and it works very well when documents are listed directly under the standard page. BUT a lot of our documents are organised in multiple folders and 'direct linking' will not work if the standard page has to look two levels down (in the folder).

We use a variety of methods to sort assets in asset listings, other than asset tree order, including:

 • Asset name (will be file name in the case of Word documents, so a naming convention for the files would be useful)

Asset short name (or "Friendly name" for file assets, which could be useful in this case)

List title (a metadata field we use for items that appear in an asset list)

Release date (a metadata field we use for content that gets "datestamped" such as media releases)

Sort by (a metadata field where we enter a numeric value to force assets into a particular order - we start with 01, so that we can sort atleast 99 assets - but it's not a great solution for more than about a dozen assets)

You might find "Friendly name" (short name) or a file naming convention the most useful in this case.
