I need to practice using a Squiz CMS for a few hours

Matrix Version:

I have downloaded and installed Virtual Machine and gotten a Squiz instance to load.

However I cannot get any content or anything resembling a ‘site’ to load when using the downloadable templates.

My goal is to familiarize myself with Squiz for an upcoming job interview.

Is there any way I can login to an online sandbox Squiz CMS? Does something like this exist? Total shot it the dark I know, but hey gotta keep trying.

Any help greatly appreciated!

We are currently working on updating the VM download to version 5.4.4.1. We aim to have this out in the next couple of weeks.

However, the template import from https://matrix.squiz.net/resources/templates/system-templates should still work as they are made for version 5.4.0.0.

When you say that you can’t get anything working using the templates, what do you actually mean by that?

Also, have you tried having a look at some of the tutorials on https://matrix.squiz.net/tutorials ?

Hey Bart,
Thanks for replying. Basically, I have installed the VM, can login to Squiz at (http://matrixdemo.squiz.net/_admin/) and have imported the Matrix System Template and installed via instructions here (https://matrix.squiz.net/resources/templates#import-instructions)

I cannot get anything to load on (http://matrixdemo.squiz.net/) except this msg:

Matrix Notice
URL “http://matrixdemo.squiz.net” not found [SYS0218]

If I messed up it’s on Step 5: Select the Root Node you want to use as the import location for the Import Asset Under setting and Save the screen.

I’m not sure what I need to put in the empty fields. So I just left it blank.

Can you let me know where I’m going wrong here or what extra steps I need to take to have the template showing?

Really appreciate any help

Cheers,

Hi Chris,

You might find the manual page that covers Sites - https://matrix.squiz.net/manuals/core-assets/chapters/site#URLs-Screen useful.

To get up and running all you’ll need to do is:

In the navigation menu you’ll want to drill down to Project Name > www.example.com > Example Site

Right-click on Example Site and select URLS. You then need to assign a URL, so in this instance matrixdemo.squiz.net with the HTTP protocol.

Commit your changes and then re-visit matrixdemo.squiz.net in your browser, hopefully you’ll be greeted with something a bit more promising than the Matrix Notice…!

It worked! Thanks so much for the help.

For the record, I got the job so I’ll be using Squiz a lot more now : )

Hopefully I can pass the help onto someone in the community when i learn more
