Java Applet Unpleasantness

(Squiz) #1

After a recent upgrade I've been having problems with the awful Java applet in the Matrix admin area. I sporadically can't right-click items, and can't drag them at all (well, I can, but they get stuck). All in all it's pretty useless.

I'm using the latest OpenJDK with Ubuntu 10.10, but I'd really rather not install the Oracle Java runtime if I can help it. So I thought I'd ask if anyone's had the same problem or worked around it before.

Hi Ash,

In my experience, the Matrix Asset Map and OpenJDK just don't get along. I use Ubuntu 10.10 with Sun Java and have no issues with Matrix.

It's a shame, It was working for a good six months before it bombed out. Ah well, thanks for the response.

Doesn't look like it was OpenJDK, Sun Java SE 6 update 20 is also broken. It started happening after upgrading to Firefox 3.6.14, but I had just assumed that Java had updated at the same time. Apparently not.

I did work out that the not-being-able-to-right-click issue only happens on items in the bottom half of the Java applet, anything at the top appears to be fine, and if I scroll the tree so that the items at the bottom are closer to the top they work as well.

The "drag" feature just drops stuff around the place no matter where it's dragged from.

Edit: Same problem in Chromium. sigh
