OK, I've searched the forum for matches to LDAP, and read pretty much every post on it ( 2 hrs and counting LOL ) … but none answer my question! I think it's really basic, so I don't know if I have missed the point or what, but anyway…
Our LDAP bridge is all set up and seems to be working fine, we've created a couple of groups and linked users. We've given one of the groups read permission to a test page ( without Public read ), and that seems to work. What I can't seem to make sense of is how to give an LDAP user backend access?
They seem to get the right pane of the normal backend page, but the asset map chucks an error just after the normal Java "loading" graphic appears. It appears as if the LDAP user has no permission to any assets? Anyone else seen this? How did you fix it? Or can't LDAP users have backend access? If anyone knows that'd be great!

If you get the details screen of your LDAP Bridge asset, there is an option for user type. This can either be user, or backend user. I am not sure if you can set this on a user basis, but I don't think so.
Thanks Nic, ours is set to backend user - so I would have thought that would mean any one in the list would have backend access. I think it must be a permission thing, but I am just not sure what and where we need to set them. Applying a group permission to an asset ( or assets ) doesn't seem to be enough... there must be something else I'm missing.
im still waiting to get my grubby hands on the ldap module - but what if you clone the user into the system administration folder?
LDAP Users are backend users by default. I've never had any problems displaying the asset map for them, so you'll need to contact support if you have an account so someone can take a look at your system.
As for the system admin folder, you don't clone LDAP users; just link them in there and they will become system admins.
