Link Asset does not create linking for asset

I was using a Link Asset today which I had used the asset chooser to choose an Excel file. However, when looking at the linking screen of the Excel file, there is no link connection between the Link Asset and the Excel file.

Is this normal?

Yep, that’s normal.

A Link asset stores the assetID of the target in an attribute (link_asset_id), not in a link.

A Redirect Page asset does store the target as a link though (a link with the value redirect_asset), so you might be able to use that instead.

We’ll actually look at making the link asset produce notice links for this, as it makes sense to keep that consistent and shouldn’t be too much effort.
