I am guessing probably just the client who funded that feature,
Markdown creates vastly superior markup to the hideous wanton destruction that wsyiwyg editors inflict on load times, accessibility, and content management.
There is a little website called wikipedia that uses it to great effect.
Just started using Markdown. I prefer it to the WYSIWYG editor - faster, less cruft (random non-breaking spaces, etc), and a good compromise between WYSIWYG and Raw HTML.
But it'd be nice to have Markdown Extra.
Is that possible?
With the Daring Fireball implementation, markdown formatting syntax is not processed within block-level HTML tags. E.g., you can’t use Markdown-style *emphasis* inside an HTML block. I was opening a DIV with class 'well', then wanting Markdown formatting on a subheading and several paragraphs, before closing the DIV.
I know of a few colleagues that love using markdown and can see some great benefits of using it
