Matrix 5.4.4.1 virtual image is broken

#1

Hi, has anyone tried Matrix 5.4.4.1 virtual image? I just downloaded it but I got the following message when trying to import it into Virtual Box:

Seeking within the archive failed (VERR_TAR_UNEXPECTED_EOS).
Result Code:
VBOX_E_IPRT_ERROR (0x80BB0005)
Component:
ApplianceWrap
Interface:
IAppliance {8398f026-4add-4474-5bc3-2f9f2140b23e}

I wonder if the file is corrupted.

G’day, the file is indeed corrupt sorry for the inconvenience.

I’m adjusting our build process to inject some hashes to make this kind of thing easier to catch. We were previously just verifying the VM opened ok prior to uploading to Rackspace, but obviously we need a few more verification steps here.

Hopefully we’ll have a working copy uploaded today.

Hey @qlddev, can you check if this download works?

https://7600e0e1087465a86106-24a826258bda718316b03ffd056f6dad.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/matrixdemo.squiz.net-5-4-4-2.ova

We’ve also bumped the version number to 5.4.4.2.

There’s a shasum check added to the notes on https://matrix.squiz.net/releases/vm too.

Matrix 5.4.4.2 is blazing!

Just installed it on a 1gb Digital Ocean server from Frankfurt. Were there any speed improvements from version 5.4?

(Bart Banda) #6

There were some performance improvements added in https://matrix.squiz.net/releases/5.4/5.4.3.0#new-features-enhancements_performance-improvements

Cool … downloading now. Thank you @Bart

Downloaded and imported to Virtual Box but I still got this error (import was failed):

Failed to import appliance /Users/sumintoh/VirtualBox VMs/matrixdemo.squiz.net-5-4-4-2.ova.

Seeking within the archive failed (VERR_TAR_UNEXPECTED_EOS).

Result Code: VBOX_E_IPRT_ERROR (0x80BB0005)
Component: ApplianceWrap
Interface: IAppliance {8398f026-4add-4474-5bc3-2f9f2140b23e}

Untar the .ova and create a new VM and use the .vmdk as hard drive, I got a lot of the following errors:

failed command: WRITE DMA

Hi @qlddev are you able to confirm the sha256sum of your downloaded .ova as per https://matrix.squiz.net/releases/vm ?

If that checks out ok, what version of VirtualBox are you running?

My apologies … checksum checks out and it seems it was caused by my Virtual Box wasn’t up-to-date. I updated my Virtual Box and the appliance import runs without any issues. So I got it running now. Thanks for your quick response @dschoen
