Matrix Java Runtime Problem with Firefox

(Tbaatar) #1

Hi,

We recently started having problems with accessing Matrix Admin with Firefox on Mac OSX Snow Leopard.

We have updated the OS with the latest java build, and installed the latest version of Firefox but still getting this message in the Admin Interface:

Java is not installed on your system. Please download the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment and return once it has been installed.

This problem occurred since last week to 3 different 2009 iMac computers.

Anyone having same issues? and fix?

thanks.

It doesn't look like it's about Matrix's problem.
Have you tried other Java Applet application?

Same issue here…

I've seen this before with the java extension for Firefox and the recent rapid versioning cycle mozilla have adopted, although not entirely certain this is related. You can check the status of your installed plugins on this page when viewed via firefox:

Currently mine is sitting at 1.6.0.31

I've had to keep an older firefox, 3.26* alive - just because of this exact issue

I had the latest Java build on FF crashing the actual browser every time Java was needed.
Updated to the beta build and it works, every time it loads, it tells you that its not the latest version though. Click cancel and it's fine.

Running Windows XP, Latest FF here at work.

Solved the problem.

This is why Java stops working.

You can easily enable it by going to Tools > Add-ons > Plug-ins and enable the Java Plug-in 2 for NPAPI Browsers

This page (http://matrix.squizsuite.net/requirements) states "Some components of the Squiz Matrix administration interface require that your web browser have access to the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.5+…".

We've recently had admin users getting this message "Your Java Runtime Environment (1.7.0_05) is not a supported version."

Assuming that 1.7.0_05 is a more recent version than 1.5+, is the info provided by Squiz on http://matrix.squizsuite.net/requirements out of date? Could you possibly clarify?

This was an issue that was recently fixed. The version is supported. You can see the report at: http://bugs.matrix.squiz.net/view_bug.php?bug_id=5562.
