Matrix search pages - slow?

#1

Hey guys,

Would I just be able to get your thoughts on matrix search pages performance in general?

I’m testing just in our authoring environment at the moment but there is a real delay on returning search results. Sometimes 15 seconds. I’m hoping production would of course be much faster.

The search is just using the meta keywords field and asset name. There is less than 200 standard page assets that is running over.

Are you testing it as the public user. E.g. logged out?

#3

Ello Nic, the assets haven’t been set live yet. So I’m still testing in authoring. So yep I’m logged into matrix still.

It’s just when we are getting clients to check out the pages their first response is - it’s running slow . I just want to assure then when it goes live they won’t be experiencing the same speeds!

Well, if you are searching for non-live assets and not as the Public user, Matrix is checking permissions for everything, so it is slow.

#5

ahhh! of course - derr! thanks Nic

Yep, what Nic said, also check out the indexing settings on the search manager as well. The minimum word count should be 4 for optimal results and try switching the contains word setting off and re index. Also check what /_performance gives you to give you an idea of where the performance hit is coming from.

Thanks Bart and Nic

hey guys,

I checked the search manager and we actually have a minimum count set to three so if bart says 4 than thats optimal then.

I have checked the performance mode for the page and it loads within half a second.

I have tried changing some checks on the forms to see if that helps performance. As said it is only searching 100 assets. The formats for the results page only is very simple as well - a small thumb and text - nothing fancy at all and it takes like 20 seconds to load a result =(

Did you run performance mode on the search results page? Also, in performance mode did you change it to test as the public user?

Ahh I did test as public user but did not test on the search results page.

If you could get us a screenshot of the performance mode on the search results page as well as a screenshot of your search manager index settings that would be beneficial to.

Does that mean searching as public user and reindexing the assets to be searched will speed up search results?

For sure set it to search as the Public User, but not sure if reindexing would do anything to help, or would be needed.
