Metadata restrictions on assets

If you set restrictions on the type of assets that the metadata is attached to – does that take longer for the metadata schema to update or is it quicker?
At the moment if I update the schema and regenerate it takes ages to update on assets. The aim is to reduce the time it takes – but will setting restrictions help?

 

We are using metadata for design layout as well as tagging content, so not all fields need to be added to assets, ie. folders [attachment=671:metadata restrictions.png] metadata restrictions.png (40.7 KB)

Hi,

Adding restriction won't make much difference if the number of assets the Metadata Schema is applied to remains unchanged.

It's the number of assets that is taking up time.

 

Have you tried changing the threshold for regenerating Metadata on the Hipo Configuration screen under System Management?

What happens here is, depending on the threshold set, Matrix will refresh the progress bar at that frequency which can be a bit time consuming.

Setting higher number would make you feel the process quicken.

 

Alternately you can use the server side script regen_metadata_schemas.php if you are maintaining your own servers or have access to.
