Morph Asset Types Script

(Willh) #1

I'd like to know more about the new script in 4.16 described as "Morph Asset Types" please (mentioned in Newsletter #425).

How does it handle existing system metadata? A change from User to Backend User appears to be simple (and already supported). What about converting an Asset Listing asset into a Page Standard asset? Some dependent assets would presumably be discarded; some changes needed to the content in the dependent assets.

What is this script able to do? What can't it do? It hasn't been documented in the manuals yet.

Thanks,

Will

Hi Will, I wrote this script so I guess I will know the most about it. :)

Metadata is kept in place like you would expect.

Only File and User type assets can be morphed in Matrix, as you can see on the Settings screen of those assets. This is by design. No other asset types that I know of are able to be morphed. The reason being if you morph from a Backend User to a Simple Edit user, they both have the same attributes, so it is easy to do the morph. If you were trying to morph a Asset Listing to a Standard Page, the script would fail as there is no way to do this, it just isn't supported or possible.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
