Nested data records in page won't use default paint layout

Hi,

I am new to Squiz Matrix (4.16.0) but have been on the training (thanks Dave!) and feel I have a good understanding of the basics.

I am trying to add a data record to a page (with a paint layout) by nesting it but for some reason the paint layout only gets applied if it's specifically chosen (via the "Using an arbitrary paint layout" option). I don't want my authors to have to specify the paint layout so this is no good.

I have applied the paint layout to the folder that the data records live in so I would expect it to be applied automatically (via the option "Using default paint layout based on lookup rules") but this doesn't seem to do anything. Indeed, the data records are visitable on a web path and if you visit them the paint layout is applied as expected.

What could I be doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Graham

If you nest an asset in and use that option, it will use the paint layout that is applied to the current page that you are nesting the asset into. In instances like these, you can create a new type format on the paint layout that is applied to standard page you are nesting the data records into. Create the type format to get applied to data record assets only, and then put your formatting in there. That way you will also only need 1 paint layout instead of 2.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

Many thanks. That does solve the problem but it’s a shame there isn’t a way to do it without applying the paint layout to pages.
