Nesting Content

Hi Matrix Guys,

I'm having an issue with nested content.

I'm logged in as the root user and I have created a DIV area which I have called 'Footer'. I click 'Edit Footer's Properties' and the 'DIV Properties' pop up window appears. Presentation is set to 'Block-level' and Content Type is 'WYSIWIG Content Type'.

I want to change the Content Type to 'Nest Content' so I can use an asset I have in a folder called 'Nested Content', yet the only option that appears in the drop-down menu is 'WYSIWIG Content Type'.

Any ideas?

Your help would be most appreciated

The Raw HTML and Nested Content containers are only available with the commerical CMS package and are not included in the free download.

You can still use the Nested Content design area within your parsefile, but this is obviously a design-wide nesting.

Aha… that would explain it

Thanks for the info. For my purposes, it looks like nesting the content through the parse file will achieve the result I'm after.

Cheers!

This should be clearly stated in the design manual.

I spent 2 hours trying to get the Nest Content to work on a per site basis until I found this posting.

Now I'm wondering if the other problems I've been having were user error (like I assumed) or was it because the functionality isn't in the non-commercial product.

Honestly, it makes me want to stop evaluating this product for purchase and go on to the next one.

The Nested Content Design Area is included in the free download version and can be customised on a per-site basis using a Design Customisation.

The Nested Content Container is to allow you to nest the content of one asset within the bodycopy of another.

Quoting Avi Miller below from the posts above, there are these two which almost appear (to me) to be conflicting.
The Raw HTML and Nested Content containers are only available with the commerical CMS package and are not included in the free download.
and
The Nested Content Design Area is included in the free download version and can be customised on a per-site basis using a Design Customisation.
The problem is I am using the commercial product at work and I started the process of installing the free download on my server at home last night and now find that the one feature I most wanted (from the first quote) appears that I have to do manually.

Is that correct?

Using the first volume of the UserManual version 3.4.4a, I refer to page 100 where it's first referenced about changing the type to Nested Content, and then on page 120 with the 'Nested Content - Select Page (fig 8.16)'; do I read it correctly that these are not included in the free version?

Honestly this is one of my crucial requirements and if I have to manually modify the 'parse file' (??) then it will half defeat the purpose. For me, user control is not really an issue, it's only on a server for me anyway. I would suppose to get the add-on for as a private person would not be cost effective.

I'll open the floor for comments

Nest Content Container - Used in the actual content of the asset you're viewing. So if you have a standard page, you can nest something in its content.

Nest Content Design Area - Used in a site design which is wrapped around the viewed asset's content.

They have similar functionality, it's just that the design area is global to a site that has the design applied. You can still use nested content with the free version, it's just that it's only available at a design level, not on an individual asset level.

So does that mean that when I am in the page editor that I do get the option to change the DIV from WYSIWYG to Nested Content, or not? Sorry, I’m not quite sure of the terminology yet, but I’m getting there.

And then when I am in the backend ‘_admin’ I can nest the page within that Nested Content DIV field?

What I described above, that is in the free version?

Or are you saying the page I have the nested content IS the asset object and I can not implement it at that level (I am thinking this one is the case)

The free version does NOT have the option to change the div from wysiwyg to nested content. So the page you're editing that you want to nest content into is the asset object, and you can't implement it at that level.
