New Matrix site live today

(Tom Chadwin) #1

Forgive me some self-indulgence today. This morning we've launched the Matrix site I've been working on for the past few months:

www.broads-authority.gov.uk

It's the first site for which I've been completely in charge of the Matrix integration. Keep your fingers crossed for us that the launch is smooth.

Looks beautiful!

...for which I can take no credit. The designs are by Headscape. I think they answered the brief very well indeed.

Good luck (useful site for me as my wife and I will be spending a week in Norfolk at the end of May).  Here at Cardiff University we will be going live with our first matrix sites next Monday.

Many thanks, both. Good luck with your launch - my only advice to you is to drop the TTL on your DNS ahead of launch. And I hope you enjoy Norfolk. I've not been there for over thirty years, myself.

Oh, and thanks to everyone who has helped me out on the forum here. Very much appreciated, especially Bart and Nic.

Thanks

Happy to help!

Congratulations Tom! The site looks great, that off-screen menu at mobile size is particularly elegant.

Congrats Tom! Site looks (and works) awesome :)

Thanks both. I’m not sure I like the hidden top menu myself, but I like how the design keeps the imagery front and centre. The imagery is so strong, and I’m glad it’s not been over-designed. Headscape really have done a great job.

This site does look great! Nice and clean.
If you don’t mind Tom I might share this on our yammer forum with our admins. We like seeing nice responsive pieces.

I do know what you mean by the hidden menu. But users are so familiar with how to get to those items it’s cool.

(Tom Chadwin) #12

Thanks, Fuzzi - yes of course share it. I think my discomfort with the hidden menu is that I cannot train myself to stop scrolling manually up to get to the main nav. It's just not in my web psyche to click the menu button. I'm fine on mobile - just not on desktop. The fault is my own petrified behaviour.

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone.

Tom

Very nice and clean looking site.

I like the navigation, but don't like the jump when the page loads. Maybe just hide it rather then scroll down to the banner every time it loads?

I guess the designers liked that the header nav is traditional, and also accessible without script and in a way people expect - by scrolling to the top. But I agree - doesn’t quite work for me.
