I've set up a user with read and write permissions.
They can access the pages in Easy Edit and make changes, but they are only given the option to "Cancel saft edit" afterwards, which obviously is not useful!
There is no workflow applied as I was happy with them to make their own changes.
What have I missed in setting them up?

Users need to have admin rights to a page in order to make it live, so once you apply admin permission for that user, they will see the Approve and make live status change option.
OK thanks. Not really keen on making them admin users - could cause all manner of damage!
You don't have to make them admin users, just give them admin permissions on the asset. All that it means is that they can make it live and delete it. You can also turn safe trash on your system so that no Live assets can be deleted without going into Under Construction first.
There are other ways around it as well, you could for example create a custom button in Easy Edit that would fire a trigger which makes the asset live for them. This is a bit more advanced though and you would have to write some JS to customise your Easy Edit interface.
