Problems with CMS protected URL paths (in MS word documents)

#1

Hi guys,

We have come across problems with links in word documents to CMS content - that requires a matrix login.

I have googled this issue and it does seem to be a general issue when sites move to a CMS.

I have tested generally just matrix links and they have been fine - however assets that have a matrix login - word prompts that it

Cannot load the content.

A quick conversion of the document to PDF and the links open up.

Anyone else come across this problem? And if so how to get around it.

Thanks

Ms Fuzz

No one has any ideas?

We've spotted this too. Word makes a request to the URL before it opens it in the browser (naughty Word), and when it gets the 403 response code of the login screen, it displays that error.

Only solution we found was to have a public page with a link through to the private page…

Thanks Peter :)’ /> yeah the only way we have found around it is by converting the word docs to PDFs. Adobe much more forgiving <img src=‘http://forums.squizsuite.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif’ class=‘bbc_emoticon’ alt=’
But thanks for this is good to know that it’s not just me.

Cheers!

We’ve (NSW Dept of Education) also experienced this issue and PeterSheppard is right.

A longer term solution would be to request that Squiz modify the response code returned for a protected page.
