I am using a search page, and am wondering if there is a way to pass in a parameter into the search query string to change the sort direction? Or is that just something that has to be set in stone?

Looking into the code it doesn't look like there is some query string that you can pass to change the sorting order. The only way i can see this happening is via configuring the Weightings and also the settings on the 'Asset Sorting' screen of the Search Page.
