Set up 'See Also' - Related asset listing

(Alice Lee) #1

How can I set up 'See Also' related asset listing? We are using 3.20.1 and I'm new to Matrix.

I searched the forum and find the below tips. However, the steps are not clear to me. Is there any manual/help?

Appreciate if someone can clarify the steps.

Related Asset Listings are trickier: They need to be embedded into the design or via a paint layout to work correctly (as you want the Current Root Node to be the current asset because you want to find assets Related to the current asset).

Essentially, the process is as follows:

  1. Create a thesaurus of keywords - Does this mean thesaurus term (not thesaurus asset), like 'See also'
  2. Use the Tagging screen of each asset to apply keywords from the thesaurus to each asset - Ok, done. Applied 'See also' to a asset page

    3. Create a Related Asset Listing page with a Dynamic Root Node of "Current Asset" -

Should I create the related asset listing from "Asset Map"->"Add"->"Pages"->"Related Asset Listing page" or left-click the thesaurus term and select "New child: Related Asset Listing page"? Are they different?

For "Current Asset", I set the "Dynamic Parameters" with 'Replacement Root node for the listing' as 'Parameter' and 'Current Asset' with 'assetid' as 'Source'.

Do I need to set up "Related Nodes" in "Asset Locations" for new created related asset listing page?

  3. Embed this Related Asset Listing into a Nested Content design area in your design

How can I embed the page? I add a nested content "See Also" in the customised design and then what? How can Matrix know the nested content to show the new created related asset listing page?

Then, as you display each page, the nested Related Asset listing will display a list of other assets that have the same thesaurus keyword(s) applied.

Hi Deborah,

It works and make a lot of sense when bring them together.

Thank you so much.

Kind regards,

I managed to figure this one out too but the manual on Related Asset Lists really could be alot more detailed and better written.

I really came across a snag when i was trying to figure out how to apply a thesaurus term to an asset (in my case being a page).

I created the Thesaurus asset first (not really knowing what I was doing) and then realised that it was 'Thesaurus Terms' that the Relational Asset Listing object was looking for. So I created some Thesaurus term assets which sit underneath the Thesaurus asset (because they cannot be created or nested anywhere else in a website structure in Squiz Matrix).

However I have something really strange happening. When it creates the Thesaurus Term as a child of the Thesaurus it does briefly appear to look that way in the asset map. When I go to open up the Thesaurus to see its children (being the terms) - they just disappear!

Then when I was trying to tag my pages i was really bamboozled by what I should do because the Thesaurus terms had basically disappeared and I could not select them at all!

So I made a new Thesaurus Term and this time before going away from the screen, I copied the asset ID to a notepad file. When I wanted to 'tag' my pages i just did a cut and paste to put the asset ID in there. I would hazard a guess that this is NOT the way I am meant to be doing this?

Perhaps it is a bug in the system? We are using Matrix v4.18.4

Problem is now that I cannot find those terms nor delete them...how could I get around this?

@Deb, by the way, I can't view the link you posted but I suppose it is now 6 years in the future....

You need to Disable Hierarchy Mode.

Fantastic! Thanks Nic.

Was that in the Squiz documentation? I seemed to miss that part completely...

Yes, it must be. It is also in the description under that option on the Details screen.

But, I just remember asking this same question almost 10 years ago. :)

Yep, it's there alright http://manuals.matrix.squizsuite.net/thesaurus/chapters/thesaurusbut does not really explain that well how it related to the problem you and I experienced. Could do with a footnote about using Thesaurus in conjunction with Related Asset Listing.
